Anthony had a good ‘comeback’ race this weekend at Silverstone in the Radical UK Cup championship. The 2007 Radical Enduro SR3 champion proved he’d lost none of his competitiveness in by qualifying 2nd in the ultra competitive SR3 class alongside former SR8 champion and friend Stuart Moseley.
In race one, team mate Timothy Lyons took the start and drove a consistent stint although was unlucky to be tagged by another car causing him to loose a good chunk of time. Anthony set the third fastest race lap, albeit in traffic & finished 13th in class - the earlier lost time robbing the pair of a likely top 10 position.
In race two it was Anthony’s turn to start and after a fraught opening lap found himself in 4th position behind Moseley, Radical works driver Rob Wheldon and 2007 Radical championship arch-rival Bradley Ellis. He closed on Bradley and slipped past at the new Village complex as Bradley started to fade due to a slow puncture.
He then set about closing the gap to Moseley & Wheldon who were circulating in close proximately with Wheldon looking for a way past but the experienced Moseley making no mistakes. A succession of fastest laps took Anthony within striking distance and after Moseley got baulked by a backmarker at Copse allowing Wheldon to finally slip through Anthony had a good run out of The Loop onto Wellington Straight, slipstreaming Moseley and diving down the inside into Brooklands to take 2nd. He then closed on Wheldon and 2 laps later repeated the move to take the class lead!
Shortly after he handed over to Timothy and despite loosing a good chunk of time in the pitlane due to starting problems, Timothy brought the car home in 9th place in class. The pair were also awarded an extra point for Anthony taking fastest lap.
Both Anthony & Timothy were very pleased after the event: “I’m glad I could take the fight to Stuart and Rob” said Anthony. “They are two of the best Radical drivers in the business so to be able to prove my pace compared to them is very satisfying - and especially amongst such a big field. Timothy and I will work together to improve the overall performance to try to get a podium result before long.
They next race at Oulton Park in May.
