Timothy's improved pace at Donington

Posted by iwannagofaster on August 18, 2011 at 5:40 AM

Timothy Lyons showed his improving form in a Radical this weekend at Donington by qualifying 4th & 6th for the Clubmans Cup and running well in the UK Cup.

Timothy is coached by - and race with - Anthony and the two have been working together closely to improve his pace.

"Timothy's basic driving ability was never in question" said Anthony. "He always had good control and a fluid style but we just needed to bring out his confidence, particularly in corner entry speed which can be a challenge in these high downforce cars". Timothy was for the first time within 102% of Anthony's pace over the weekend and a number of front running competitors commented on his speed.

He ran in the top 7 in both Clubmans Cup races, finishing 7th in the first and looking like a top 6 was likely in the second, although a red flag and a subsequent difficult restart prevented this and he eventually finished 12th.

In the UK Cup a good run in the first race was stymied by a blown engine which prevented them from competiting in race 2.

Scarlet Dunn has arrived!

Posted by iwannagofaster on June 9, 2011 at 5:07 AM
Amanda Whitaker & Anthony Dunn are proud to announce the birth of their first child Scarlet Jane Whitaker Dunn on Thursday 2nd June.

Scarlet was in such a hurry to meet the world that she couldn't wait to get to Darlington Hospital - she instead arrived at 12.20 pm at Newton Aycliffe Doctors Surgery!
She weighed just 6lbs but mother and baby are doing well and are now home starting their new lives.
Amanda & Anthony would like to thank everyone, particularly the mid-wives at the Jubilee Medical Group in Newton Aycliffe and to all their family, friends and neighbours for the well wishes and gifts.

Anthony flies at Silverstone

Posted by iwannagofaster on April 19, 2011 at 1:30 PM
Anthony had a good ‘comeback’ race this weekend at Silverstone in the Radical UK Cup championship. The 2007 Radical Enduro SR3 champion proved he’d lost none of his competitiveness in by qualifying 2nd in the ultra competitive SR3 class alongside former SR8 champion and friend Stuart Moseley.

In race one, team mate Timothy Lyons took the start and drove a consistent stint although was unlucky to be tagged by another car causing him to loose a good chunk of time. Anthony set the third fastest race lap, albeit in traffic & finished 13th in class - the earlier lost time robbing the pair of a likely top 10 position.

In race two it was Anthony’s turn to start and after a fraught opening lap found himself in 4th position behind Moseley, Radical works driver Rob Wheldon and 2007 Radical championship arch-rival Bradley Ellis. He closed on Bradley and slipped past at the new Village complex as Bradley started to fade due to a slow puncture.

He then set about closing the gap to Moseley & Wheldon who were circulating in close proximately with Wheldon looking for a way past but the experienced Moseley making no mistakes. A succession of fastest laps took Anthony within striking distance and after Moseley got baulked by a backmarker at Copse allowing Wheldon to finally slip through Anthony had a good run out of The Loop onto Wellington Straight, slipstreaming Moseley and diving down the inside into Brooklands to take 2nd. He then closed on Wheldon and 2 laps later repeated the move to take the class lead!

Shortly after he handed over to Timothy and despite loosing a good chunk of time in the pitlane due to starting problems, Timothy brought the car home in 9th place in class. The pair were also awarded an extra point for Anthony taking fastest lap.

Both Anthony & Timothy were very pleased after the event: “I’m glad I could take the fight to Stuart and Rob” said Anthony. “They are two of the best Radical drivers in the business so to be able to prove my pace compared to them is very satisfying - and especially amongst such a big field. Timothy and I will work together to improve the overall performance to try to get a podium result before long.

They next race at Oulton Park in May.

Congratulations to Christian Pedersen on taking his first ever class victory at Mallory Park this weekend in his Austin 7. Driving in the 750 Trophy race, Christian totally dominated the day, putting his car on Pole Position by 1.5 seconds and streaming away in the race to win by over 20 seconds from John Skeavington.

Christian is an IWannaGoFaster.com customer and Anthony was on hand during the day to lend advice and any coaching tips.

Congratulations Christian - let's hope it's the first of many!

A video with a lap onboard with Christian can be seen in the Videos section and also some Photos.

Back in Radical at Ascari

Posted by iwannagofaster on February 21, 2011 at 12:32 AM
Anthony made a return to Radical sportscar racing again this weekend at the Ascari Race Resort in Spain. He was partnering client Timothy Lyons who he coaches through his IWannaGoFaster.com business. Although racing isn't new to Timothy having raced for a number of years in Formula Ford in the late 1970's & early 80's, it was his first competitive event for nearly 30 years and his first in a sportscar. Having won the 2007 Radical SR3 British championship, Anthony was keen to be on the pace of the front runners in this very competitive category. He achieved this by running amongst the top guys in free practice and having a good dice with winner Alex Kapadia on track in race 2 and setting the second fastest lap time. Anthony & Timothy finished 5th & 9th in class in the two races - a modest result but a good foundation to start with. "We never expected to be on the pace as a pairing just yet - this was just the start to get Timothy used to driving competitively again and how this type of racing works and for us to build on working together" said Anthony. They will be racing together in the full Radical UK Cup & potentially at rounds of the European Masters, although Anthony may miss one race in June due to the birth of his first child with wife Amanda Whitaker.

Abu Dhabi in Radical SR8

Posted by iwannagofaster on October 19, 2010 at 1:40 PM

Anthony made a short trip to the Abu Dhabi Yas Marina circuit to help coach Radical SR8 driver Manhal Allos in the final round of the Radical Masters Championship. Anthony was on hand to lend his coaching advise, having guided novice Barry Gates to the Radical SR3 UK championship in 2007. He also performed a few 'datum' laps in the car to help Manhal get close to the pace.

Despite having overheating issues due to the extreme temperatures of the Middle East, Manhal drove very consistently, improving his vision and overall technique throughout the event. Although it was the first time they worked together, he was pleased with Anthony's input:

"Thank you very much for a very informative and detailed analysis which is very useful. I benefited greatly from your input.... I think your concentration of vision is very helpful and I found that helped me a lot being quite accurate on apexes."

Lyons in Spa

Posted by iwannagofaster on October 1, 2010 at 1:32 PM

Anthony helped new clients TImothy & Oliver Lyons learn Spa-Francorchamps in their Radical SR3.

Both had a fantastic, incident free time and thoroughly enjoyed their first visit to the magnificent venue! Anthony also used Racelogic's fantastic Video Vbox to record the video & data.

Ex-Formula Ford racer Timothy and his sons Oliver and Oscar  plan on doing more track days in the Radical view to racing in the future.

3 out of 4 for Millar at Pembrey

Posted by iwannagofaster on June 28, 2010 at 2:57 PM

Congratulations to IWannaGoFaster.com client Colin Millar who won 3 out of 4 races in the Quaife Radical Clubmans Cup this weekend at Pembrey in his SR3 RS.

Colin had never driven at Pembrey before prior to the race weekend and enlisted Anthony's help to learn the circuit after working with him to learn Croft prior to his race wins there in 2009.

Anthony - who still holds the unofficial Radical SR3 fastest lap of Pembrey at 52.7 seconds in qualifying 2007 - worked with Colin for free practice on Friday. Colin then qualified on Pole Position and dominated the weekend, comfortably winning outright in 3 out of the weekend's 4 races and finishing 2nd in the other after a poor start off the grid.

The result keeps him ahead in the Supersport Category and moves him closer to the overall title lead.
